Psychotherapy Supervision & Case Consultation
Peer supervision is a structured, nonjudgmental space to expand your skills and clinical range, and think critically about your work…
…So you can be more effective and feel more confident as a clinician.
You’ve come to the right place
Research shows that high-quality peer supervision improves therapist effectiveness and supports ethical practice.
If you’re a licensed therapist feeling stuck with a case, questioning the effectiveness of your work, or carrying frustration into sessions, you might benefit from psychotherapy supervision and case consultation (even if you’re an experienced therapist!).
This is especially true for solo practitioners—without regular access to colleagues, it’s easy to lose the opportunity for reflection that strengthens our clinical thinking.
Just as importantly, it reduces isolation and burnout.
What you’re experiencing and feeling is common—as a therapist, I have felt stuck, craved community, and questioned my efficacy. Guidance from colleagues has often reset me, and I can offer that to you.
How I Can Help
Hi, I’m Dr. Sumi Raghavan, PhD—clinical psychologist, culturally informed trauma therapist, and burnout expert.
You can learn more about my clinical work here.
With over a decade of experience as a college professor, I bring an educator’s lens to supervision—offering clear feedback, clinical teaching, and new perspectives.
As a practicing psychotherapist, I recognize supervision as a valuable space to explore your emotional responses, countertransference, and challenges that arise in the work.
Being a therapist in the current moment is especially challenging, with many clients and therapists feeling vulnerable and carrying the weight of social and political events. I understand individual distress within broader social, cultural, and structural contexts and support therapists in holding this complexity in the room.
who it’s for
I offer psychotherapy supervision and case consultation for licensed therapists in the US who want:
Flexible, supportive, collegial peer support
To consult with a seasoned clinician on individual cases that include trauma and complex trauma, chronic stress and burnout, work-related trauma and secondary exposure, cultural identity, difference, power dynamics, and systemic stressors
Guidance on how to manage social and political issues in practice
I work with a limited number of unlicensed trainees on a case-by-case basis seeking clinical supervision in NYC and New York State. Sliding scale and low-cost options are available for unlicensed trainees and early-career clinicians (within five years of licensure).
FAQs about Psychotherapy Supervision
-
My training includes CBT, DBT, IFS, psychodynamic therapy and a variety of cross-cultural techniques. I work from an integrative framework—conceptualizing clients through early experiences and relational patterns while intervening in direct, pragmatic, and clinically useful ways.
All consultation work is informed by Liberation Psychology and Systems Theory. I understand individual distress within broader social, cultural, and structural contexts and support therapists in holding this complexity in the room.
-
Many therapists choose to meet monthly for peer supervision after their initial supervision session to integrate new interventions and assess clinical impact.
As a peer supervisor, I’m flexible and available on an as-needed basis. A minimum commitment of four sessions is required, but we can agree on the cadence together.
-
Many supervisees choose to meet for six to ten sessions, often across multiple cases. My four-session minimum for supervision allows time to understand your clinical style and your client’s presentation. You may pause at any time and return as needed.
-
There’s no “right” way to access psychotherapy supervision. I am a member of multiple supervision groups, and I’ve also paid for 1:1 supervision when I need more time, or when cases are trickier than what I can cover in a short group supervision.
If you’re getting what you need from colleagues, I support that entirely. If you’d like additional support, please reach out.
-
Psychotherapy supervision sessions may include case conceptualization, treatment planning, role-plays, and skill practice.
I may also recommend brief readings or resources. We’ll address both clinical strategy and personal blocks that may be shaping your therapy practice.

My approach is collaborative, time-limited, and clinically grounded.

Psychotherapy supervision is for therapists who want case consultation and clinical guidance. If you need support on the business aspects of private practice management and maintenance, I also offer private practice coaching. Sometimes my clients want both, and we can discuss a package that combines these services.
