Private Practice Coaching | available online in the us
Thinking about going into private practice, or need help making your practice feel sustainable?
Whether you’re considering leaving a hospital, agency, or group practice to start your own solo practice—or you’re already in private practice and feeling uncertain, burned out, or ready for a change—you’re not alone. I’m here to help.
Most therapists were never taught how to build, launch, or sustain a private psychotherapy practice.
In fact, we were taught to distrust marketing or view business skills as incompatible with good clinical work.
Unfortunately, the result is talented clinicians staying in roles that no longer fit because the path forward feels unclear or unattainable.
I believe there is a better way.
Hey fellow therapist 👋 I’m Sumi
I’m a full-time, booked-out private practice therapist who loves coaching other therapists on how to make private practice work on your terms.
You can learn more about my clinical work here.
My Private Practice Story
I launched my solo private practice immediately after licensure while working full-time as a tenure-track professor.
Joining a group practice wasn’t feasible—and candidly, I wasn’t convinced that giving up 30–40% of my fee made sense once licensed. So I learned by asking questions, seeking mentorship, and figuring things out in real time.
More than a decade later, my practice has grown from a side hustle into a full-time, sustainable business with ideal clients and expanded offerings, including therapist coaching, supervision, workshops, and trainings.
Along the way, I’ve built strong community partnerships, collaborated with organizations, been featured in media and podcasts, and developed an engaged newsletter and social media presence.
You don’t need to do everything I did—but if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or curious about what’s next, I can help you think it through and make a plan that works for you.

Private Practice Coaching Testimonial
“…she gave me clear, practical guidance to take the leap into private practice.
She knew what I needed before I did, pointed me toward every right resource, and said with complete confidence, 'You'll never look back.'
I didn't believe her then. I absolutely believe her now.”
"If you're an immigrant-parented therapist who has spent a lifetime proving yourself, working twice as hard just to feel halfway enough — Sumi gets it. She doesn't just understand the cultural weight you carry; she names it, normalizes it, and helps you work with it rather than against yourself.
Sumi and I started working together for peer supervision and support on some of my complex cases, and what I found was so much more than clinical consultation. She was the first person to hold up a mirror and show me that my burnout wasn't a personal failure — it was a systemic one.
If you're ready to stop shrinking and start building the practice — and the professional identity — you actually want, Sumi is the person to help you get there."
